The short version
Some links on Debt Free Dept. are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. We only recommend things we believe in, and getting paid never changes our opinion.
What’s an affiliate link?
An affiliate link is a special tracking link. When you click it and buy something, or sometimes sign up for something, the company may pay Debt Free Dept. a commission. You pay the same price you’d pay anyway. In some cases, you may even get a discount we’ve arranged.
Why we use them
Debt Free Dept. shares free guides, spreadsheets, emails, and posts. Affiliate commissions help cover the cost of making them, so we can keep the core stuff free.
Our promise to you
- We only recommend what we believe in. If we wouldn’t tell a friend about it, we won’t put it in front of you.
- Money doesn’t buy our opinion. A commission, payment, or free product never changes what we say about something. If something has downsides, we’ll tell you.
- We’ll always tell you. Whenever a link earns us money, you’ll see a clear note before the link: at the top of the page or email, next to the link, or at the start of the caption or video.
- You never need to buy anything. Our budgeting method works with a pen and paper. No product is required to get out of debt.
- We won’t push debt. We won’t use affiliate links to steer you toward credit cards or new loans.
Sponsored content and free products
The same rules apply when a company pays us to create content, gives us a product or service for free or at a discount, or gives us anything else of value. We’ll clearly label it as an ad or sponsored right where you’ll see it, and our opinions stay our own.
Where you’ll see disclosures
- Website and blog: at the top of the post or page, before the first affiliate link, and as “(paid link)” next to links that are far from that note.
- Emails: above the first affiliate link.
- Instagram, TikTok, and other social: in the first line of the caption, on screen in videos and Stories, and spoken aloud in videos.
This page is an extra explanation. It doesn’t replace those notes.
