The short version

Debt Free Dept. is here to teach. Everything we share is for educational purposes only. It is not financial, legal or tax advice, and Debt Free Dept. is not a licensed financial adviser, planner, accountant, or attorney. Use what helps, check anything big with a licensed professional, and make the call that’s right for you.

Not financial advice, just common sense.

Educational purpose only

The content on this website, in our emails, guides, spreadsheets, and templates, on our social media accounts, and anywhere else Debt Free Dept. publishes (“our content”) is general information about budgeting, saving, and getting out of debt. It’s meant to help you learn and think things through.

Our content is not personalized. We don’t know your income, debts, goals, taxes, health, family situation, or the laws where you live, so nothing we share is a recommendation for you specifically.

No adviser-client relationship

Reading our content, signing up for our emails, downloading our free resources, commenting, or messaging us does not create an adviser-client, fiduciary, attorney-client, accountant-client, or any other professional relationship between you and Debt Free Dept.

Debt Free Dept. and the people behind it are not licensed or registered as financial advisers, investment advisers, financial planners, broker-dealers, accountants, tax preparers, or attorneys. Nothing we say should be read as coming from one.

We don’t recommend specific stocks, funds, or other investments.

Do your own research, and talk to a licensed professional

Before you make a financial, legal, or tax decision, especially a big one like settling or consolidating debt, filing for bankruptcy, changing retirement contributions, or investing, please do your own research and talk with a qualified, licensed professional who can look at your whole situation.

You are responsible for your own decisions and their results.

No guarantees of results

Getting out of debt takes time, and everyone’s path is different. We can’t promise any particular outcome, including how fast you’ll pay off debt, how much you’ll save, or what will happen to your credit. Your results depend on your income, expenses, choices, and circumstances, many of which nobody controls.

Examples are illustrative

Any budgets, balances, interest rates, payoff timelines, or other numbers in our content are example figures used to explain an idea. Unless we clearly say otherwise, they’re not real people’s numbers, not typical results, and not a prediction of what will happen for you. Payoff projections are simplified and leave out things like rate changes, fees, and life surprises.

When we cite statistics, we link or name the source so you can check it.

Third-party links and resources

Our content may link to websites, tools, products, or services run by other people or companies. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content, accuracy, privacy practices, or products. A link isn’t a guarantee or an endorsement of everything on that site.

Some links may be affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.

Accuracy and timeliness

We work hard to keep our content accurate and up to date, but we can make mistakes, and money topics change: interest rates, laws, tax rules, and programs change over time. Our content reflects our understanding when it was published, and we don’t promise it’s complete, current, or error-free. If you spot something wrong, please tell us at [email protected].

Limitation of liability (in plain English)

You use our content at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, Debt Free Dept. and the people behind it are not responsible for any loss, damage, or cost of any kind, whether financial or otherwise, that comes from using or relying on our content, or from decisions you make based on it.

Our content is provided “as is,” without promises or warranties of any kind, whether stated or implied.

Some places don’t allow certain limits on liability, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Changes to this disclaimer

We may update this page from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to use our content after a change means you accept the updated version.
